The Journey of Never Giving Up: 23 Years, 4 Degrees, and the Lessons I Learned

Today, I want to share with you a journey, one that is deeply personal, but I believe universally resonant. You see, I recently reached a significant milestone that was 23 years in the making. But let’s start at the beginning, and why this story might be just what you need to hear today.

The Humble Beginnings

My academic journey kicked off in the Philippines with a degree in Computer Systems Design and Programming. It was the 1990s; the tech wave was in full swing, and like many young people at the time, I hopped on the bandwagon.

A Change in Course: Joining the U.S. Navy

I then took a leap of faith and joined the United States Navy, a move that brought me to the shores of America. The Navy not only offered me an avenue to serve but also a chance to further my education. In 2013, I earned an Associate’s in Health Science Laboratory Technology from George Washington University—all thanks to the Navy’s support.

When Life Happens

But of course, life doesn’t pause when you’re pursuing your goals. During this time, I faced deployments, was transferred to different locations, and along with my wife Fe, raised our beautiful children Miggy and Yana. And then, Lucy and Enzo came into our lives, making our family circle complete.

Despite the chaos and the responsibilities, I never lost sight of my educational ambitions. I continued to take courses whenever I could, utilizing the Navy’s Tuition Assistance program.

The Culmination: No End, Just New Beginnings

This year, 2023, marks a special moment. I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Leadership. It’s been a long trek—23 years to be exact. But every step of the way was worth it.

What This Means For You

Now, you might ask, “Why am I telling you this?”

Because I want you to know that time will pass regardless of whether or not you pursue what matters to you. Life will throw curveballs, you’ll have obligations, and it might seem like your dreams are slipping away. But the choice to continue striving is one you can make every single day.

If a guy like me, juggling military service, family, and the usual ups and downs of life can do it, believe me, you can too. Whether you’re 23, 33, or 43, it’s never too late. There’s no deadline for fulfilling your dreams.

Let my story be a testament: The road might be long, but the journey is the destination. It’s not about how quickly you get there; it’s that you keep going.

So, friends, take that step today, no matter how small. Your future self will thank you. Keep going; your dreams are worth every effort.

Until next time, keep striving, keep dreaming, and most importantly, never give up.
